I had heard about Wombat’s series of hostels across Europe so I figured I’d stay for a night and ended up extending my stay! So central and convenient. Scroll down for all the important deets!

BEDS

I opted to stay in a mixed 6-person dorm at this large hostel. It’s set up more like a hotel with 3-4 stories of various rooms. I stayed on the top floor with a room that had a ceiling window that looked out onto the roof. The beds were plenty big enough, comfortable, and the rooms were pretty good sized so you didn’t feel like you were right on top of other travelers. The room did get a touch warm at night. I tried to open the window and that felt great until another traveler walked in and promptly shut it!?

STORAGE

The storage lockers are operated with a lock that is activated by the same key card that gets you into your room which is super convenient. It easily fit my 60L backpack and probably could have fit my normal backpack as well! If for some reason you had a need for more room, under your bed would work fine.

BATHROOMS

There were bathrooms in each of my rooms and I always view that as a plus for convenience sake. They were very clean and well kept! The shower is a touch small, especially for me. BUT, let me tell you ‘bout some serious water pressure. This makes or breaks a shower for me and these showers were just what I needed after a long day exploring Vienna!

BAR

I hung out at the bar the first night with a pretty lively crowd and met some people that I ended up spending nearly my entire trip with! With some mood lighting, a giant pool table and plenty of seating, this bar is a great place to meet people staying in the same hostel! Also, the chips and salsa are incredible. Thanks to a couple Aussies for tempting me into getting them!

NOTES

There is definitely more of a genuine traveler type of vibe at this hostel. Lots of large groups, people of all ages, etc. Some hostels are almost all 20-30 year olds but that was not the case here. Several large groups of high school students, several groups of older individuals, etc. Not a positive or negative, just something to be aware of depending on what vibes you enjoy.

The hostel does offer breakfast for about $4 in euros, which is an all you can eat. HOWEVER, there are PLENTY of local places to eat a great Austrian breakfast within just a few minutes walking distance!

If you want to get to downtown, it is SUPER easy. Walk about 100m to the Kettenbruckengasse station and ride the U4 one stop to Karlsplatz. Get off and hop on the U1 and ride it one stop to Stephensplatz. Bam. You’re right in the middle of downtown. Takes maybe 10 minutes total.

VALUE

For $22, I felt like I got a great value. Given the proximity of the hostel to downtown, to the subway station, and the surrounding marketplaces to eat, this is definitely a 10 out of 10 place to stay! Not to mention the high pressured hot showers… that’s a difference maker!
