Santa Teresa, Costa Rica: Selina Santa Teresa North

To say that Selina Santa Teresa North was one of my favorite hostel experiences thus far would be an understatement. Scroll down to get all the details you need to be convinced of a stay here!

BEDS

Is there anything better than coming back from a long day of adventuring and falling into the perfect bed? I don’t think so. This Selina location had some of the BEST beds I’ve ever slept on. They were massive (Twin XL), and for my 6’5” body, that’s a big deal. Air conditioned dorms, quiet beds, and great mattresses make this hostel one of the top I’ve stayed at thus far.

STORAGE

Storage is definitely a downside to this location. There are very small areas underneath the bottom bunks but I couldn’t even fit my stuff through the cubby hole. For this exact reason, I always travel with small locks so I can secure my stuff during the day. I will say however, that since everybody is in the same dilemma, there seems to be an understanding that nobody touches anybody else’s stuff. I never felt uncomfortable leaving my stuff in the room, but for those who are overprotective, just be aware.

BATHROOM

I stayed in a mixed 9-person dorm and there was one bathroom for our room. The positive is that it is in the room, not down the hall somewhere. The only downside is that only one person can use it at a time. There’s one toilet and one shower with a flimsy curtain. However, aside from that the bathroom was perfectly fine!

BAR

The bar is located inside just down from the check-in desk. It’s a little small but provides food and drinks. This is actually where I met someone who I had spent a lot of time with while in Santa Teresa, so I’m always a big proponent of good hostel bars! They also provide breakfast for a charge, but the food is incredible! I believe you pay per kilo of food, so load it up and get your day started off right!

NOTES

The atmosphere at the hostel at night is like a party. Things aren’t out of control by any means, but there is great Latin music, a perfectly lit up pool, great swings and places to lay around, and so many people to meet! The hostel is only a 3 minute walk to the beach… well, 3 minutes if you walk slow and take the scenic route. You can book surfing lessons here as well for $50 which I highly recommend. Go at night for the best views of the sunset as well! Surfing under a Costa Rican sunset is something you’ll never forget!

VALUE

I could have paid $50 per night and felt like I got a value… But instead I only paid $16 per night! How crazy is that!? If you are anywhere close to Santa Teresa, I beg you to pay them a visit!
