Rome, Italy: Alessandro Downtown Hostel
Beds
To be honest, I was sick pretty much the whole time I was in Rome. BUT, the beds were good. I gotta be honest, I don’t remember much about the beds, but when it comes to beds, no news is good news. So clearly it was good enough to stay in.
Bathroom
There are community bathrooms in the hallway (separate for male and female). The sinks are outside with showers, toilets in separate little rooms or closets or whatever you’d like to call them. I just remember the showers being the only time I felt good in Rome because I was miserable. So let’s put the showers in the “plus” category!
Bar
The hostel did have a bar but I never went while it was open unfortunately. I was out and about pretty much my whole time in Rome and when I did come back to the hostel I was in bed. However, the bar was super nice and cozy with plenty of seating in the dining area and a chic looking bar area.
Storage
There are lockers in each room which is awesome! As far as I can remember, you do need your own lock to lock up the lockers. They were big enough for my backpack but not big enough for my suitcase. So maybe bring an extra lock to lock up your suitcase zipper (I always recommend traveling with two small locks anyways).
Notes
This is much more of a place to sleep than anything. It’s Rome so obviously most people are visiting to explore, see the old ruins, and eat pasta. It fits the bill perfectly. The location is awesome as well as it’s within walking distance of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Vatican City (this is a bit farther but still walkable). Oh, and there’s gelato errrrrrywhere.
Value
Pretty much anything under $15 per night and I’m going to say it’s a great value. Being $12 per night and within walking distance of the Colosseum? AWESOME FREAKING VALUE.
