Rome, Italy: Walks of Italy

Tour

After searching for seemed what days, I landed on Walks of Italy as my tour guide company of choice. Recommended to me by a friend, Walks of Italy gives tours all over Italy including the two specific ones I did in Rome: the Colosseum and the Vatican City. I had two awesome tour guides, a sweet older man named Luigi with a beautiful Italian accent, and Big Mama G (she called herself that, I can’t remember her actual name) with the best, most stereotypical Italian big mama personality you can imagine!

The guides were INCREDIBLE! They knew so much information, offered to take pictures, knew when to slow down and speed up, and were so friendly. The Colosseum tour takes you all over the ruins, including to the second level and behind some hallways, as well as past the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. The Vatican City tour I chose included the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica, and inside some other buildings STUFFED with artwork and carvings!

Price

I paid about $135 combined for the tours (each booked separately). There were definitely more expensive tours and other companies I could have gone with, but this seemed to be the best option in terms of price, reviews, and recommendations. I am very happy that I chose Walks of Italy!

Difficulty

Both tours, especially the Colosseum/Palatine Hill/Roman Forum tour, involve a lot of walking. It will be several hours on your feet, walking, in the sun most of the time. Plan to bring water and maybe even a couple snacks. Prepare ahead of time!

Notes

Be careful bringing large bags on these tours, or really any tours in Rome. I had no problem with my backpack (which I thought was rather large), but I read so many reviews of people who were told they couldn’t enter because their bags were too big. I also read a lot about people not being aloud into the Vatican City if they were wearing shorts, so I wore jeans… on a 97F/37C degree day… and of course everybody wore shorts. So. Proceed with caution.

Worth it?

Was it worth it? Idk. Is the Pope Catholic?
