Zermatt, Switzerland: Youth Hostel Zermatt (HI)
Bed
The bedroom set up was almost EXACTLY like my stay in the Youth Hostel in Grindelwald. Two bunk beds, sturdy, not much to comment on, which is a positive as far as beds go.
Bathroom
The bathrooms and showers are located in the hallway with male and female being separate. Again, very similar set up to the Youth Hostel in Grindelwald. Quite sufficient and clean which is all you can ask for.
Bar
What bar?
Storage
There’s a locker for each person in the room. Make sure to bring your own lock however. The lockers are pretty good sized and big enough to store your suitcase, which is more and more rare I’m finding.
Notes
There’s two things that need to be mentioned, one positive and one negative. The positive is that my room had a DIRECT CLEAR VIEW of the Matterhorn! Literally, open the window and BAM. Matterhorn. Can’t get much better than that. Unfortunately the negative is that this hostel is MISERABLE to get to. Be prepared to be in a full sweat from lugging your luggage uphill for more than a kilometer from the train station. The uphill walk finishes with heartbreak hill and a staircase that’ll crush all of your dreams. But just remember, the views of the Matterhorn are waiting.
This hostel is part of Hostelling International, all of which have about the same vibe… Take that as you please.
Value
I’m not sure any hostel is worth the walk to get here. But I also think the views of the Matterhorn are worth crossing an ocean for. So… there ya go.
