Zurich, Switzerland: Youth Hostel Zurich (HI)
Beds
The bed was pretty average. My only complaint was the lack of air conditioning in the room, but this is a standard issue all over Europe. It was super hot and with little air flow it was a little too warm for me.
Bathroom
There’s a sink in each room, but the bathroom and showers are down the hall in a community area. The showers are in the same room and shared by male and females, but the bathrooms are separate. The shower was great, plenty of space to change, but with no fan or ventilation, the area gets super humid pretty quick, even into the hallways.
Bar
There’s a bar and buffet for dinners but it closes pretty early so make sure you let them know you’d like to eat. That being said, I wouldn’t eat here. For $20 it’s just not very good food. Sure it’s expensive everywhere in Switzerland but you can find better food elsewhere. The vibe here is more of a family hostel so if you’re looking to hang by the bar and put out some vibes, this isn’t your spot.
Storage
There is a small locker big enough for a backpack to fit in but I didn’t use it. Bring your own lock if you’d like to store bags or valuables in the room while you’re out in Zurich.
Notes
It’s called a “youth” hostel, but it’s anything but that. Mostly older folks and families, which was odd and didn’t make for much socializing. This hostel is a part of Hostelling International (HI).
Value
Not great value given the price at more than $50USD. Unfortunately though, there simply aren’t many cheap options in Switzerland so it may be your cheapest option.
